What do you want to tell us with your last song, what's the message?
«The main message to all of my music is peace and harmony. I love to collaborate with other artists and for that to happen, there has to be mutual respect and peace. My latest single titled Among Friends is a perfect example of collaborating through peace.»
Which of your songs represents you the most?
«Heritage. It’s on my latest album titled Return to Eden. It is a combination of many genre styles. Playful, funky jazzy and smooth all at the same time.»
Do your songs have a common element or do you want to communicate different messages with your songs?
«I really don’t have a specific message in mind when I create but my music does have common elements. Most of the time I start with the creation of a groove that I dig. I try to use instrument sounds the way a painter uses colors and brush strokes. I really believe that this is what makes my sound distinctive.»
How important is Radio Indie International network?
«The staff at RIN are some of the most dedicated people that I have ever had the opportunity to work with. They truly believe in the indie artist. They understand what we go through and I can truly say that Radio International Network has been a major reason for my success in the music industry.»
Would you like to sing?
«I wish I could sing! If I could, I would be dangerous!»
With the music of which artist did you grow up?
«My life has been filled with music ever since I can remember. Gospel, Soul, R&B, Jazz, Rock, you name it and I have experienced it. Artists like Earth Wind and Fire, All the Motown artists, Stevie Wonder, George Duke, Barry White. There are so many that I have studied that it is almost impossible for me to name them all.»
Would you like to come and sing in Italy?
«Oh let’s do it! I had the opportunity to play in Europe for about 3 years and the European audiences are amazing.»
What are your future plans and which one are you working on now?
«I have been in this industry now for over 40 years. It is time for me to give back. I want to help up and coming artists to achieve their goals. I have started my own music production company, SJF Music LLC and recently opened my own record label, Ambyent Records. Both companies were built by indie artists and run by indie artists.»
I like to combine music and food, so I ask you: If you were a dish would you be and why?
«A Honeybun. I am an affordable guilty pleasure. I can be enjoyed cold, room temperature or warm. I’m not just flavorful on the surface but my flavor goes all the way through to the last bite.»

Cosa vuoi dirci con la tua ultima canzone, qual è il messaggio?
«Il messaggio principale di tutta la mia musica è la pace e l'armonia. Amo collaborare con altri artisti e perché questo accada, ci deve essere rispetto reciproco e pace. Il mio ultimo singolo, intitolato Among Friends, è un perfetto esempio di collaborazione attraverso la pace».
Quale delle tue canzoni ti rappresenta di più?
«Heritage. É nel mio ultimo album intitolato Return to Eden. È una combinazione di molti stili di genere. Giocoso, funky jazzy e delicato allo stesso tempo».
Le tue canzoni hanno un elemento in comune o vuoi comunicare messaggi diversi con le tue canzoni?
«Non ho davvero in mente un messaggio specifico quando creo, ma la mia musica ha elementi comuni. La maggior parte delle volte inizio con la creazione di un groove che elaboro fino in fondo. Cerco di usare i suoni degli strumenti come un pittore usa i colori per dipingere. Credo davvero che questo sia ciò che distingue il mio suono da altri».
Quanto credi Radio Indie International Network sia importante?
«Nello staff di RIN ci sono le persone più impegnate con cui ho avuto l'opportunità di lavorare. Credono davvero nell'artista indipendente. Capiscono quello che stiamo attraversando e posso veramente dire che Radio International Network è stata una delle ragioni principali del mio successo nell'industria musicale».
Ti piacerebbe cantare?
«Vorrei poter cantare! Se potessi, sarei pericoloso! (ride)».
Con la musica di quale artista sei cresciuto?
«La mia vita è stata piena di musica fin da quando mi ricordo. Gospel, Soul, R&B, Jazz, Rock, Rock, tu lo chiami ed io ci sperimento su. Artisti come Earth Wind and Fire, tutti gli artisti della Motown, Stevie Wonder, George Duke, Barry White. Ce ne sono così tanti che ho studiato che è quasi impossibile per me nominarli tutti».
Ti piacerebbe venire ad esibirti in Italia?
«Oh,si facciamolo! Ho avuto l'opportunità di suonare in Europa per circa 3 anni, il pubblico europeo è incredibile».
Quali sono i tuoi piani per il futuro e su quale stai lavorando ora?
«Lavoro in questo settore da oltre 40 anni. È giunto il momento di dare qualcosa in cambio. Voglio aiutare gli artisti emergenti a raggiungere i loro obiettivi. Ho fondato la mia casa di produzione musicale, SJF Music LLC e recentemente ho aperto la mia etichetta discografica, Ambyent Records. Entrambe le compagnie sono state costruite da artisti indie e gestite da artisti indie».
Mi piace combinare la musica con la cucina e quindi ti chiedo: Se tu fossi un piatto, quale saresti e perché?
«Un dolce. Sono un goloso colpevole e lo riconosco. Potrei essere gustato freddo, a temperatura ambiente o caldo. Non sono solo saporito in superficie, ma il mio sapore arriva fino all'ultimo morso».
