With a trip over the ocean to meet a great American actor and singer Patrick Basile, we had the honor of interviewing him. He spoke to us about many things, including the new television series that he is starring in as "Johnny Mellow". There will be a trailer/preview at the end of this month, November 2018.

Would you like to tell us about the history of the TV series that you are a part of, and who the character is that you are playing?
«A while back, I got a message from writer/producer Sandy Jordan. She told me that her production company, "New Apple Productions" was looking for an actor who could sing. Sandy and her co-producer, Doug Lipp, thought that I was perfect for the role of "Johnny Mellow" in a television series of the same name. I play the lead character, "Johnny Mellow". Johnny is an Italian singer in New York City. Unlike the "Rat Pack" style, the music has a very different edge to it. The series is set in New York City. While the storyline has some of the typical Italian characters in it, the series aims to have a "positive outlook" on Italians and Italian Culture. The show has a very enlightening and interesting plot attached to it, along with music. The pilot was shot and is presently being edited. We will have a trailer/preview at the end of this month….November 2018.»
How much has your Italian origin helped you to interpret your character in the TV series?
«I grew up in a town in Upstate New York . It has a very large Italian population. I grew up with many Italian families.. My grandmother on my father's side had a very successful Italian restaurant. I used to work there in my early twenties. As a matter of fact the whole family has worked there at one time or another. I learned how to cook Italian from working there. We have many Italian Cafe's and pastry shops in my hometown and a lot of "great" Italian restaurants.»
Is there an actor or singer that you are inspired by?
«Yes…. as a young boy and teenager, I listened to Tom Jones, Ray Charles, Tony Bennett, Barbra Streisand, Gino Vannelli , and naturally "Jerry Vale" . I was also in many cover bands early on, and performed a lot of the popular songs of the day of different genres. Doing that enabled me to be more diversified as a singer. My father "loved" Frank Sinatra. I got to see him perform live as a teenager at Madison Square Garden. He was "spectacular". However, I have been told that my singing stye is "all my own". I attribute that to listening to a lot of "different" types of singers and performing different types of music, all the while keeping my "own style" intact with each song.»
In addition to interpreting great classics of international music, do you also write songs?
«Yes, I do. I have written many songs. There are 2 original songs on my new EP. I do love writing. I also produce, and arrange many of my recordings.»
When will your CD be released and what kind of music does it contain?
«Right now, the EP is scheduled to be released November 20, 2018. I want to release it when the "trailer" to the pilot, "Johnny Mellow" is out. We will have the trailer at the end of November. The CD has songs on it by various artists that I have admired throughout the years…..Ray Charles, Anthony Newley, Barbra Streisand, Tom Jones, Simon and Garfunkel, and Peter Alan.»

How many songs are on your new EP.... "Now And Forever"?
«My new EP consists of 8 songs and features two original songs, plus other songs by artists that I have admired throughout the years.»
What are your future projects and what are you working on now?
«Well I just finished filming the pilot to "Johnny Mellow". We are working on publicity strategies for that and my new EP. I am also working on getting my EP up on the internet. I am recording new material all the time. I like to sing everyday to keep my voice strong. We will need a lot of music when we do the actual series.»
Have you ever thought of singing in Italian?
«Yes…. I would love to. However, I feel that I could sing the songs well, but don't know that my Italian is phonetically correct.»
Have you ever thought of coming to Italy to perform?
«Yes… I would love to.»
When you are not performing, what do you like to do?
«I am also and artist. I am a painter and sculptor. You can see some of my artwork on my website. I also like to eat…! Love good restaurants and good friends.»
If you were a dish, what dish would you be?
«Pasta Fagoli.»
Un viaggio oltre oceano per incontrare un grande attore e cantante americano, Patrick Basile, che abbiamo avuto l'onore di intervistare e che ci ha parlato, in esclusiva, della nuova serie televisiva della quale sarà protagonista: "Johnny Mellow", il cui episodio pilota sarà trasmesso negli Usa alla fine del mese di Novembre.
Vorresti parlarci della storia della serie TV di cui fai parte e chi è il personaggio che interpreti?
«Qualche tempo fa ho ricevuto un messaggio dallo scrittore e produttore Sandy Jordan che mi diceva che la sua compagnia di produzione, "New Apple Productions" stava cercando un attore che sapesse cantare. Sandy e il suo co-produttore, Doug Lipp, pensavano che io fossi perfetto per il ruolo di "Johnny Mellow" in una serie televisiva con lo stesso nome.
Io Interpreto il personaggio principale, "Johnny Mellow", un cantante italiano a New York City. A differenza dello stile "Rat Pack", la musica ha uno spessore molto diverso. La serie è ambientata a New York City, mentre la trama ha alcuni dei tipici personaggi italiani, la serie mira ad avere un "punto di vista positivo" sugli italiani e sulla cultura italiana. Lo spettacolo ha una trama ricca di spunti ed è molto interessante, insieme alla musica. L'episodio pilota è stato girato ed è attualmente in corso di modifica. Avremo l'anteprima del trailer fine di questo mese, Novembre 2018.»
Quanto le tue origini italiane ti hanno aiutato a interpretare il tuo personaggio nelle serie TV?
«Sono cresciuto in una città al Nord di New York che ha una popolazione italiana molto grande. Sono cresciuto con molte famiglie italiane. Mia nonna, da parte di mio padre, aveva un ristorante italiano di grande successo. Io ho lavorato lì nei miei primi vent'anni. In realtà, l'intera famiglia ha lavorato lì, chi prima, chi dopo. Lavorando lì, io ho imparato a cucinare italiano. Abbiamo molti caffè italiani e pasticcerie nella mia città natale e molti "ottimi" ristoranti italiani.»
C'è un attore o un cantante a cui sei ispirato?
«Sì…. da ragazzo e adolescente ho ascoltato Tom Jones, Ray Charles, Tony Bennett, Barbra Streisand, Gino Vannelli, e naturalmente "Jerry Vale". Sono stato anche in molte cover band all'inizio e ho suonato molte delle canzoni famose del momento e di generi diversi e questo mi ha permesso di essere più diversificato come cantante. Mio padre "amava" Frank Sinatra e ho avuto modo di vederlo esibirsi dal vivo da adolescente al Madison Square Garden, fu "spettacolare". Tuttavia, mi è stato detto che il mio stile di canto è "tutto mio". Lo attribuisco all'ascolto di molti tipi "diversi" di cantanti e all'esecuzione di diversi tipi di musica, pur mantenendo il mio "stile personale" intatto con ogni canzone.»
Oltre a interpretare grandi classici della musica internazionale, scrivi anche canzoni?
«Sì, certamente. Ho scritto molte canzoni. Ci sono due canzoni inedite sul mio nuovo EP, amo scrivere. Produco anche, e arrangio molte delle mie registrazioni.»
Quando verrà pubblicato il tuo CD e che tipo di musica contiene?
«In questo momento, l'EP è previsto per essere pubblicato il 20 novembre 2018. Voglio pubblicarlo quando il "trailer" dell'episodio pilota di "Johnny Mellow" uscirà. Pubblicheremo il trailer alla fine di Novembre. Il cd contiene canzoni di vari artisti che ho ammirato nel corso degli anni, Ray Charles, Anthony Newley, Barbra Streisand, Tom Jones, Simon e Garfunkel e Peter Alan.»

Di quante canzoni è composto il tuo EP....."Now And Forever"??
«Il mio nuovo EP è composto da 8 canzoni e presenta due canzoni inedite originali, oltre ad altre canzoni di artisti che ho ammirato in tutti gli anni.»
Quali sono i tuoi progetti futuri e su cosa stai lavorando ora?
«Beh, ho appena finito di girare il film su "Johnny Mellow". Stiamo lavorando a strategie pubblicitarie per questo e per il mio nuovo EP. Sto anche lavorando per promuovere il mio EP su Internet. Sto anche registrando nuovo materiale, ci lavoro sempre. Mi piace cantare ogni giorno per mantenere la mia voce forte, avremo bisogno di molta musica quando giriamo le serie.»
Hai mai pensato di cantare in italiano?
«Sì, mi piacerebbe molto. Tuttavia, sento che potrei cantare bene le canzoni, ma non so se il mio italiano è foneticamente corretto.»
Hai mai pensato di venire in Italia per esibirti?
«Sì, mi piacerebbe.»
Quando non canti cosa ti piace fare?
«Io sono anche un artista, sono un pittore e scultore. Si possono vedere alcuni dei miei lavori sul mio sito web: patrickbasile.net. Mi piace anche mangiare ...! Mi piacciono i buoni ristoranti e i buoni amici.»
Se tu fossi un piatto, quale piatto saresti?
«Pasta e fagoli.»
